Sandal Shopping Part One

I have now spent weeks trying to find suitable shoe options.  Let me tell you what I have
learned.  There definitely appears to be more options in the U.S. than there is in Canada
when shopping for size 12 extra wide womens shoes.  The problem is that they all seem to
add $40 per pair for shipping to Canada.  Here are the American stores that might be useful
if you happen to physically go to the U.S. to shop:

www.shoes.com has at least one pair of Women’s size 12 extra wide sandals that work out to
less than $75 Canadian (Plus Shipping).
www.DSW.com has at least one pair of Women’s size 12 extra wide sandals that work out to
less than $75 Canadian (Plus Shipping).  There is also a Canadian DSW website, but it
doesn’t really have any extra wide sizes.
www.Torrid.com has many options for Women’s size 12 wide (not extra wide) sandals. It
appears that all of their sandals are wide sizes.  And all the prices appear to be less than $30
American (Plus Shipping). However, The soles of these sandals appear to be pretty thin.  I
don’t know how comfortable these sandals might be.
www.Macys.com has many options for Women’s size 12 wide (not extra wide) sandals for
less than $75 Canadian (Plus Shipping).  This site allows you to shop in Canadian dollars.

I had given up on finding a site with free shipping to Canada, and I decided to go shopping in
an actual store today.
We started at Al's Shoe Factory and I was surprised that they didn't have much in a
Women's size 12 extra wide. My daughter likes the Birkenstock style of sandals, but they are
kind of pricey. So we were impressed with the Viking brand sandals. They are very similar to
Birkenstocks, but with a much lower price tag. They are around $60. They are not
technically listed as wide, but some of the Viking (and Birkenstock) styles fit quite wide.
Women's size 12 equals size 43 in European sizing. We found a size 42 and a 44 and
we are guessing that the size 43 would fit well. But they didn't have a size 43 in stock.

Now that I am home, I looked up the site www.Vikingsandals.com
Women's Viking sandals only go up to size 41. But they have plenty of sizes in the
Unisex/Men's sandals. These sandals are $70 online (which isn't too bad). I called two other
Stores listed under the "where to buy" button. These stores also sell the Viking sandals for
around $60, but the size 43 is currently sold out.
